Chapter 26:

If there was one thing that relieved Colin and Heather more than hearing that Jenna had been arrested, it was the fact that Cooper and Kurt had found Blaine alive...even if there was only a slim chance of survival after the ordeal he'd suffered.

Thomas had been arrested also.

Neither of the Andersons were happy about it but there was no other alternative to reporting him, given what he'd done.

Now they both sat in the waiting room at Lima General, where Blaine had been rushed into the OR after arriving at the hospital in the ambulance.

The doctors had stated that not only did he need his stomach pumped to clear it of any remnants of the drug she'd used, but he'd also need surgery to relieve some internal bleeding, and for some other, serious injuries.Cooper and Kurt, along with Burt and Carole (whom Kurt had called as soon as they were back in Lima) sat with them in the waiting room. Cooper had a few fractured ribs, but otherwise he was alright.

"Blaine Anderson?"

Everyone seemed to tense when the teenager's name was finally called. Colin touched Heather's arm and they both stood to go talk to the doctor.

They were back minutes later.

Cooper cried when his grandfather told him that Blaine was stable, and that they could see him.

---

Cooper hadn't moved from Blaine's bedside since the doctors had told him and their grandparents it was alright to see him.

The thirteen year old was a mess. His curls were hidden under thick, white bandages. An oxygen canula was hooked under his nose, an IV in his right arm. His left arm had been wrapped in a cast and set in a sling. Though they couldn't see it, he also had four broken ribs, a punctured lung that had been repaired by surgery, and his right leg was broken.

His brother had thrown up into the nearest trash can he could find when he realized the extent of the damage.

"Press charges," he heard himself say as his hand slid across the mattress and curled around Blaine's, taking small comfort from the fact that he could feel his brother's faint pulse: proof that he was alive. "Find the bastards that did this and put them away."

"We will, Cooper." Heather said hoarsely. "They won't get away with this...I promise."

He had to fight not to throw up when he saw his brother in another hospital bed. This time only one side of Blaine's head was bandaged, leaving most of his curls visible. There was an IV in his arm, along with an oxygen canula under his nose. His face looked better though, now free of dirt that could infect the cuts he had.

And he was awake...well, half-awake.

"C-Cooper." he said. "Hi."

Cooper slid carefully into one of the chairs next to Blaine's bed.

"Hey buddy," he said. "How're you feeling?"

Blaine blinked slowly, mouth falling open into a yawn.

"Sleepy." he mumbled. "and my stomach hurts."

"I know." The elder sibling leaned over and kissed his forehead. "Grandma and Grandpa are here too, buddy."

The teen gave tiny nod, before smiling at their grandparents.

"Hi."

Colin smiled.

"Hey kid." he said.

"We're so glad you're okay, sweetheart." said Heather, reaching over to smooth over the light blue blanket covering him.

"Thanks." Blaine looked over at Cooper. "Is Kurt...?"

"He's fine, squirt. He's here. D'you want to see him before you go to sleep?" Cooper rubbed his shoulder gently, sighing when he nodded. Colin quickly left the room to go get Kurt. "Grandpa just went to go get him, Blaine. He'll be here in a sec."

"Mmmm...okay." Blaine said sleepily. "Coo?"

"Yeah?"

"Mmm..." He licked his lips and tried again. "Mom..."

"She'll never come near you again. Never." Tears were falling again, thick and fast...just like they had when he'd watched them load Blaine into the ambulance. Just like when he'd heard them tell his grandparents that his brother would need surgery. "I love you, B."

"Love you too."

"Blaine?"

Both boys looked over to see Kurt standing in the doorway of Blaine's room. Blaine's expression brightened.

"Kurt." he said, trying and failing to stifle a yawn. "Hi."

Cooper stood and gave the bedridden boy's hand a squeeze.

"I'll be right outside if you need me, okay?"

Blaine just nodded, his eyes never leaving Kurt's face.

Colin chuckled and pulled both his wife and elder grandson from the room.

End Notes: Thoughts or concrit are welcome.

Awww, having just managed to rescue his baby brother from near death when he felt like he could do nothing, now Cooper won't ever let that nasty bitch or anyone else dangerous near Blaine again!
