Kurt didn't listen to Rachel or Sebastian's complaints as they headed up to the boat deck. He clutched his coat around him tighter, and looked around.
Then he spotted Sam Evans, who was the man who'd built the ship, heading for the Grand Staircase.
"Mr. Evans," he said, trying to remain calm, "The ship -- I-I saw the iceburg." Sam's eyes widened in horror. "What's happening?" he asked desperately.
Sam hesitated, then gripped Kurt's shoulders tightly.
"We're sinking," he said quietly. "Get to a boat, Kurt. Now."
And then he was gone, leaving Kurt staring wordlessly at the spot he'd been standing in.
---
The sound of someone hammering on the door of the cabin woke Blaine out of the doze he'd been in.
He stared at the door in disbelief.
"Hello?!" he called.
"Blaine?! It's Dave! They're ordering everybody to put lifebelts on and get to the boat deck!"
Blaine carefully climbed out of the bunk, throwing Cooper's jacket on before approaching the door.
"I can't get out -- I've been locked in!" he cried.
Dave swore audibly when he tried the door knob and found Blaine's statement to be true.
"Who the hell did this? Where's Cooper?!"
Blaine felt the urge to start crying again, but fought it. He had to get out of the room somehow, had to find Cooper.
"Not with me. It's a long story, and I'll give you details later -- but you've got to get me out of here!"
"I will, Blaine." Dave promised. "I'll be right back."
---
Cooper's feet were killing him. It wasn't like he could just sit down on the floor, the way he was cuffed to the pole, but he wanted some kind of relief.
Puck didn't seem to care. He was messing around with his gun.
Oh God he has a gun. Cooper tried not to panic.
The other man stood, and walked over to him. Pain errupted in his stomach as he felt Puck's fist collide with it, and he gasped for breath as he slumped against the pole, knees on the verge of buckling.
"Sebastian asked me to do that." he said simply, before leaving the room.
Cooper felt more tears begin to slide down his cheek. He tried to ignore the burning pain in his gut, knowing the skin under his shirt would probably bruise.
Someone help me...please...anyone help me...
---
Before long, the boats started loading women and children. Carole and Rachel stepped nto a nearby boat, along with Santana. Burt called to Carole that he would get the next one.
Then he looked at Kurt.
"Go on." he said.
Kurt froze.
I'm not a child. I'm not leaving with the women. he thought frantically. Blaine and his brother are going to die...and I can't let that happen.
"Kurt." called Rachel. "Come on! You know you're lucky they're letting you in at all!"
He looked over at his father.
"I can't." he said simply.
Sebastian scoffed.
"Are you mad? Of course you can. Your legs are still working, aren't they?"
Burt looked desperately at his son.
"Kurt, I'm not taking chances, and I'm not going to lose you like I lost your mother." he pleaded. "Get on the lifeboat."
Kurt shook his head.
"I'm sorry, Father -- I can't. I can't leave them to die in the bottom of the ship." he looked coldly at Sebastian. "unlike some people." he reached over and hugged Burt tightly.
And then he ran.
---
"Blaine?!"
Blaine was curled on the floor, back braced againt the wooden door, and half asleep by the time he heard Dave's voice again.
He scrambled to his feet, heart pounding.
"Dave! Could you find a key?" he called.
"Nope -- the damn stewards are all preoccupied with keeping the gates locked --" Blaine inhaled sharply. "I'm gonna get you out okay? Just move away from the door."
Blaine frowned, but did as the older man asked. There was loud 'thunk' as something crashed against the door. He heard the same noise again two or three more times before the door gave way, and Dave collapsed on the ground, groaning audibly.
The younger boy moved quickly to help him up.
"What do we do now?" he asked.
Dave grabbed him by the arm and hauled him out into the hallway, which was crowded with people.
Dave looked around, determined.
"We find your brother. You said it was a long story. Feed me the short version -- quickly."
---
Kurt made his way quickly back down to B-Deck.
Mr. Evans...Please be down here...please be down here, I can't do this alone --
"Go put your lifebelt on and get the boat deck! Now!"
Ahh. He was on this deck apparantly.
Just as Sam rounded the corner, Kurt ran up to him, yelling for him to stop.
"I need your help," he said, gripping the man's arms tightly. "I-I have two friends trapped below and where ever the Master At Arms takes offenders -- I've got to get down there. Now."
Sam stared at him incredulously.
"Kurt, turn around, go back up to the boat deck --"
"No!" he was on the verge of tears; if Sam didn't help him, then he knew there was no chance of helping the two men trapped below. "Please -- I -- I'll do it myself if you won't help, but I -- I think things would go easier if you could point me the right way."
Sam sighed, and gave Kurt quick, pointed instructions to get to the bottom of the ship, and then he was off again, praying Blaine was alright -- that Puck hadn't harmed Cooper.
---
Cooper was dozing when he heard the steady trickle of water. Heart racing, he turned and saw water rapidly flowing into the room from under the door.
Damn it. As much as Cooper hadn't wanted to believe Puck, it was obvious he'd been right about the ship.
He hoped Blaine would get out and find some way off the ship.
Because as far as he was concerned, it looked like he might die right here in this room.
---
Kurt ran as fast as he could, yelled at one of the men who was blocking the lifts and forced his way onto it, barking at the man to take him down to E-Deck.
He wasn't expecting a rush of ocean water to suddenly surge into the small space, and couldn't stop the scream that escaped his throat as the lift landed at E-Deck.
But when the other man yelled that he was going back up, Kurt shoved past him and threw it open before stumbling out into freezing water that reached mid-thigh.
He looked around frantically before spotting the passage Sam had mentioned, and then ran down it as fast as he could.
