“I can’t do this to you Blaine, you need to be free just as much as I do, and our lives are going different ways. I’m sorry. Goodbye Blaine”

The words replayed over and over in his head, as he continuously cried out a pathetic stream of ‘whys’ to absolutely no one. He didn’t understand Kurt’s sudden change of heart, they were in love. Or at least Blaine had thought that, what had he done wrong? He and Kurt had talked so much over the past year about what would happen when Kurt graduated, and left Blaine to finish his senior year alone. They planned for Blaine to join Kurt in New York; they’d move into an apartment together, finish school and begin their lives together.

“It’s you and me against the world Blaine. Forever, I promise, I love you.”

He could still hear Kurt speak the words to him, all of the conversations, stolen kisses, and whispered confessions of love. Everything was still so fresh in his mind, it was summer break now. Blaine didn’t have anything but time now, time to sit alone and silently wonder what he did wrong. He constantly wondered if Kurt was as broken as he was, but of course he wasn’t. Kurt was the one who ended what they had; it was he that ran away this time. Not Blaine, for once he’d thought he found something in his life that he could call perfect. But as always, his perfection had come to an end.

After weeks of wallowing in his own self –pity, he managed to get himself out of the house for coffee, rather reluctantly at that. His parents had left on a business trip for the week, and seeing he was pretty much living off of coffee these days, he’d run out rather quickly. That day had been one of the worst since the days immediately following the break-up; he’d actually resorted to re-thinking every single conversation he’d ever had with Kurt. He knew it was pathetic, but he was desperate to get back the only love he’d ever had. He drove slowly to the Lima Bean, why he thought going there was a good idea he didn’t know. The memories with Kurt seemed to flash right before him as he walked through the doors; this coffee shop had been the setting to a milestone moment in their relationship. The first time they’d exchanged ‘I love you’; he walked up to the counter restlessly.

He lifted his head and came to see the familiar face of Brittany Pierce; she still looked stunning as always. Even in the Lima Bean apron and hat, he’d never been very close with her. Having maybe two or three conversations over the course of his year at McKinley, her smile seemed to brighten greatly when she laid eyes on him.

“Blainey! Where did you go?” she asked with the same smile on her face.

“Brit, I didn’t go anywhere, what are you talking about?” He said, not exactly in the mood to deal with her interesting conversations.

“You haven’t been to see me all summer. Were you lost in the sewer? Is that why you haven’t shaved? That happened to me last summer you know.”

“No Brit, I wasn’t lost in the sewer. I’ve been home the whole time; I just didn’t think anyone would want to see me again.” He said sadly.

“Why? What did you do?” she asked, Blaine thought he saw the slightest hint of confusion on her face, but quickly reminded himself that she always seemed to have that expression.

“I’m not sure, but it was bad enough for Kurt to break up with me.” He held back a sob.

“Kurtie left already Blainey.” She stated matter-of-factly.

“Oh. Well you were all Kurt’s friends’ before you were mine; I just assumed that you wouldn’t want anything to do with me anymore.” He frowned slightly.

“Well Blainey, I’m back at McKinley this year, and I still want a lot to do with you! San left for school, you could be my new best friend! YES, that’s it. You’re my best friend.”

He laughed for the first time in months and agreed to it. He took her cellphone number and ordered his coffee, and left the store with a slightly heightened attitude. He and Brittany got considerably closer following that day, and she listened to him rant about Kurt, she even let him cry on her shoulder. Multiple times. He knew that his senior year still had hope now, all because of her.

End Notes: I hope you've enjoyed what you read, and if you'd like to tell me what you thought that would be wonderful! I've only let one other person read this before now. So this is quite terrifying for me.
